Speaking harshly in Malayalam, a man threatens to turn terrorist and blow up the Guruvayur Temple police station, before reeling off a long list of abuses.

In the video, which has been going viral on social media and messaging platforms, you see a man’s legs resting on a plastic chair, while a finger points threateningly at the policemen walking in the background.

Despite the man’s loud and threatening voice, though, a couple of policemen can be seen walking away from him, not paying any heed to his threats.

The voice belongs to Afnas, a native of Kottapadi in Thrissur district, who was taken into custody at the Guruvayur temple police station, after he allegedly verbally abused a traffic policeman on the road on October 20.

Afnas reportedly abused the policeman after the latter stopped his bike to let a few school students cross the road. Taken into police custody, though, Afnas had no qualms about creating a ruckus at the police station, and breaking a wooden chair.

Afnas then proceeded to share the video of him abusing the policemen with some of his friends. A group of his  friends then reportedly landed up at the station to meet him. What’s more, they also brought a bag of pazhampori (banana fritters) for Afnas, and the group then took selfies while munching on the popular evening snack.

While the police apparently did not intervene during this episode, however, they then booked a case against Afnas and remanded him to judicial custody on Saturday. Afnas was charged with obstructing the duty of a police official and with damaging property.

The Circle Inspector at the Guruvayur Temple police station confirmed to TNM that the incident had taken place, but refused to comment further on the matter.

However, the CI added that as Afnas had circulated his video clip, which contained inflammatory speech, the police had also slapped an additional charge against him, of propagating communal content.
