“I feel disappointed that despite being a traffic warden I could not do much to help  three ambulance pass when the traffic was stopped so the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah’s vehicle could pass.” said H M Sathyanarayana, a traffic warden. Sathyanarayana, an employee of Yelahanka-based Federal Mogul volunteering for the Traffic Wardens Organisation, made a post  in Kannada on the Facebook page of Bangalore Traffic Police describing the traffic block and requested the them to take action. His Facebook post said (translated), “I even approached and requested the CM security police jeep that was coming from Gayatri Vihar to allow the ambulances to pass, but they just pushed me and went ahead. The ambulance had to wait for more 20 minutes. I asked for the name of the inspector and he said it was Nagalingaiah. 'Do whatever you want, we came here for CM's duty, not to allow ambulances to be' he told me",”According to a report in Bangalore Mirror, Chief Minister and his convoy created a choc-a-bloc after he went to attend a wedding at the Gayathri Vihar in Palace Grounds."Your information has been forwarded to Sadashivanagar police station, ACP and DCP (East) to take further action. Thank you," Bengaluru traffic police replied on Facebook. However, the DCP of traffic sang a different tune. "The ambulances were allowed to pass soon. They weren't held up for 20 minutes. People say whatever they want, but the fact is that the traffic police follow the rules and don't take emergency cases lightly," said CK Baba, DCP (Traffic East) told TNM.Strangely, the same DCP was quoted by Bangalore Mirror saying that he was aware of the incident and was helpless. “All traffic police personnel have been directed to give priority to ambulance and other emergency vehicles. There are no emergency lanes in Bengaluru, but we are doing our best by using the existing lanes. Every system has its pros and cons, which we need to work around.”The Sadashivnagar traffic police reportedly claimed that under such a circumstance, it was difficult to take spontaneous decisions. "There were 50-60 vehicles in the front of the ambulances. The CM's convoy was already moving and we could not do much about the ambulances. The moment the convoy left, we cleared the traffic and let the ambulances go," they told the Bangalore Mirror.Sathyanarayana’s, post went viral and people in social media expressed outrage against the Chief Minister and the traffic police. He told The News Minute “VIP convoys are generally pre-planned but emergency cases are not. The traffic police who usually are on such specific duties must find an alternate route for the VIP vehicles and not take emergency cases lightly.”Sathyanarayana, who has been a traffic warden for the last two years, added “Not everyone would bother to find out why they have been held up. I managed to find out as I approached the traffic police as a traffic warden because we are motivated to do help people in distress during our training.”“Even those stuck in the traffic jam urged the traffic police to allow the ambulances to pass, but nothing was done,” he said. The Bangalore Mirror report quoted CM office’s officials who denied Sathyanarayana’s accusations of holding up the ambulances for 20 minutes. "They were not held up for more than five minutes; we parked to the side to let them pass."
