Rajya Sabha MP and DMK leader Kanimozhi slammed the AIADMK government on Monday stating, “The only business that runs properly in Tamil Nadu is TASMAC.”

Kanimozhi was leading protests outside a Public Distribution System shop at Royapettah in Chennai as part of the DMK’s state-wide demonstration to highlight the failure of the state government in the distribution of essential commodities.

Hitting out at the Edappadi Palaniswami-led government for not providing lentils at PDS shops, she also slammed the ruling AIADMK for the quality of the commodities and for not providing proper supply to the people.

“The kind of care the government is taking for TASMAC shops, it is not taking the same care for ration shops. AIADDMK only interested in staying in power,” said Kanimozhi.

While the protests started at 9am, Kanimozhi and other cadres were detained by the police later.

The state-wide demonstrations come a week after DMK working president MK Stalin had made a surprise visit to ration shops in his constituency, Kolathur.  Stalin had then found several commodities in short supply. He had then said, “The scenario in my Assembly seat is the same across the state regarding the supply of products to PDS outlets. Let the Ministers concentrate on restoring the supply to the PDS instead of accusing me.”

Stalin had asked DMK MLAs to visit PDS shops in their constituencies and file a report about the situation. He had also warned that if the issue was not resolved in a week, the DMK would carry out a state-wide protest in front of all the PDS shops. The DMK working president went on to say that Tamil Nadu should not suffer for signing the national food security scheme.
