Though Oviya has acted in a number of films, she shot to the limelight with the Tamil television reality show Bigg Boss. Her popularity now has prompted producers of her long pending projects to consider releasing the films.

According to reports, the Oviya starrer Cheeni has been lying in the cans for a long time and its producer, Madurai Selvam, has decided to cash in on Oviya’s popularity by releasing it. The film has been re-titled Oviyaava Vitta Yaaru, he said.

In an interview to the Deccan Chronicle, Madurai Selvam said, “The film has Oviya in the role of a TV reporter and an elephant called Seetha plays a crucial character. The elephant, which was named as Seetha by late legend MGR, belongs to TVS family. Three more contestants of Bigg Boss are also a part of the film — ‘Kanja’ Karuppu as a folk artist, Vaiyapuri as the PA of Radha Ravi and Snehan has written the lyrics.”

When asked why Oviya was not seen promoting the film when the filmmakers decided to change the title with her name, the producer said that according to a contract entered with Bigg Boss producers, Oviya is not allowed to join the promos.

Oviya made her acting debut in 2007 with the Malayalam film Kangaroo and has starred in various languages such as Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. Her Tamil debut was with the cult hit Kalavani and she went on to star in films such as Kalakalappu, Marina, Yaamirukka Bayamey, 144 and Hello Naan Pei Pesuren.

Oviya will soon be making her debut in the Telugu film industry with Hello Naan Pei Pesuren. With Oviyaava Vitta Yaaru aka OVY making it to the theatres, the producers of her other films which are lying in the cans are also contemplating on cashing in on her current popularity.
