Thani Oruvan was not just a successful film for actor Jayam Ravi and the film’s director Mohan Raja. The film, in many ways, redefined their careers apart from reintroducing Arvind Swami to Kollywood in an unforgettable role. The film was remade in Telugu as Dhruva, and it was equally well received if not better than the original.

The remake proved Ram Charan need not have to always rely on commercial potboilers to please his fan base and can also be part of slightly unconventional films that entertain as well tickle the intellect of viewers. If the industry grapevine is anything to go by, Thani Oruvan is all set to be remade in Hindi.

It is believed that Sabbir Khan, known for directing films such as Heropanti and Baaghi, is most likely to helm the project. Earlier, there were rumours that Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan might join hands for the yet-untitled project. According to the latest reports, Arjun Kapoor and Siddharth Malhotra are in talks for the remake. Interestingly, the film was recently remade in Bengali as One, and it starred Prosenjit Chatterjee in the lead, but unfortunately the movie tanked at the box-office.

Thani Oruvan, apart from its engaging screenplay and pulpy twists, worked predominantly because of the characterisation of the lead actors- Ravi and Arvind Swami – who made a great pair on screen. It would be interesting to see whose role Arjun and Siddharth will reprise.
