A day after protests rocked the Lok Sabha, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad spoke in the House on the matter of bifurcating the Hyderabad High Court, which is presently overseeing cases from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Prasad said that Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has offered four buildings in Amaravati to temporarily host the state's High Court in Amaravati.
The bifurcation would take place according to the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, the Union Minister said.
“We are giving funds to AP government to build the new infrastructure as the present high court belongs to Telangana as per the Act. The construction and completion of new buildings will certainly takes time. Meanwhile, the AP government has come out with a proposal to locate the HC in a temporary building. This should get the approval of the high court,” Prasad was quoted as saying.
Speaking in the House, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Chief Ministers of both the states should sit together and sort out pending issues due to bifurcation.
Meanwhile, TRS MP Jithendra Reddy demanded that no judges should be appointed or elevated, until the two high courts are bifurcated.
The TRS MPs had on Wednesday trooped into the well of the House. They were demanding that the Centre create separate High Courts for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, under Section 31 of the AP Reorganisation Act.
Earlier in the day, they protested from their seats and also came near the Speaker's podium carrying placards and also holding an electronic tablet that flashed a message raising their demand.
Led by Nizamabad MP K Kavitha, who is also Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's daughter, the MPs stated that the matter had been pending for the last three and a half years, and demanded an adjournment motion.
"It has been more than three and half years since the new State was formed and there was no such delay in the High Court bifurcation following a State bifurcation earlier. We will not relent until the Centre makes an announcement in this regard," Kavitha told reporters later.
