Andhra student doused with petrol, set on fire at Rajampet railway station

He was travelling from Kadapa to Tirupati by train, when the incident happened.

In a shocking incident, an intermediate student was doused with petrol and set on fire on Wednesday by an unidentified man at the Rajampet Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh. 

The victim succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital in Tirupati. 

Local media reported that 17-year-old Navin Kumar, was a native of Khajipet mandal in Kadapa district, and was an intermediate second-year student at a college in Tirupati. 

He was reportedly travelling from Kadapa to Tirupati by train for writing an exam, when the incident happened. 

The New Indian Express reported that Navin had boarded the Mumbai-Chennai Dadar Express, and got down at Rajampet Station to fetch some drinking water.

As he was boarding the train again, the unidentified man poured petrol on him and set him on fire. 

Eye witnesses told the media that the victim had an argument with the accused about standing at the entrance of the door.

Some reports add that the man was wearing a handkerchief to cover his face, while committing the crime.

Navin was shifted to the Rajampet government hospital, where he regained consciousness and told the doctors about what happened.

He was later being shifted to Tirupati as his condition got severe. It was here that he succumbed to his injuries. 

The TNIE report adds that Rajampet urban CI Ashok Kumar visited the scene, and suspected that it was a planned murder as people were not allowed to carry petrol and other flammable objects on trains.

The police have registered a case, and further investigation is on.
