A six-year-old girl suffered a minor fracture after being allegedly beaten by a teacher for not doing her homework on Tuesday in Andhra Pradesh.
The incident took place in Vadadhi village in Bucchayapeta mandal of Visakhapatnam district.
The girl identified as *Priya, was a UKG student in a private school in Vadadhi.
Irked with her ‘indiscipline’ for failing to do the homework as instructed, the girl was allegedly hit with a cane. Soon Priya’s hands got swollen up, following which the teacher sent her back home.
Priya’s parents took her to hospital after the girl complained of severe pain, and got an X-ray done. They were shocked to see that the six-year-old had suffered a fracture, The Hans India reported.
The victim’s father V Nageswara Rao, an autodriver told media persons that the school severely punishes students even over trivial issues.
However, no complaint has been made to the police.
Speaking to The Times of India, District education officer G Nagamani said that they have already sent the mandal education officer to the school to conduct a probe and submit a detailed report. “A stern warning against implementing corporal punishment has been issued to the school management.” TOI quoted her saying.
In September, a similar punishment was meted to a student, when an 8-year-old boy was mercilessly thrashed by the school principal, after he couldn’t read the words written on the board.
The incident happened in Karwan in Hyderabad. The boy suffered severe bruises on his back. A police complaint was also filed by the boy’s father in the Tappachabutra police station.
