Dubbing the Telugu Desam Party’s attempt to destabilise the Centre by moving a no-confidence motion an ‘eye-wash’, Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan said that the TDP was doing these theatrics for public consumption.

In a series of tweets, the actor-turned-politician termed the arguments made by the TDP in the Lok Sabha on Friday ‘very weak’ and ‘feeble’.

“At every stage TDP had colluded & compromised with BJP leadership on SCS. Now what they are doing is eye wash & political theatrics for public consumption,” he wrote.

“A party with such a long history, if they act like infants and say that they were cheated by BJP, will the people believe? How can TDP leaders think like that?” he added.

Launching an attack on the TDP, Pawan wrote, “TDP has compromised on special category status for party & personal gains. They had lost trust of people. TDP has lost a great opportunity to win people of AP.”

Reiterating that TDP had betrayed the people of Andhra by not asking for Special Category Status, Pawan said, “For personal gains, for three and half years, they punctured Special Category Status. What is the use of making a nonsensical speech today?  A party with such a huge experience took so long to realize the betrayal of the Centre, should we believe that?”

“TDP’s argument is very weak & feeble in parliament session today. I feel they lacked the necessary moral fibre to take SCS demand forward as they had opposed, weakened & diluted the SCS ‘cause of their special package acceptance earlier.” (sic).

The actor campaigned for the former TDP-BJP coalition in Andhra Pradesh in 2014. However, after the Centre refused to grant special status to the status, he began speaking up against the coalition two and half years ago, at a meeting of the then newly-formed Jana Sena Party.

Pawan said that the TDP criticised everyone who objected to the Special Package and honoured the BJP leaders.

“Today after being cheated, if they say that it took so many years to realize their mistake, shoud we believe that?” Pawan questioned.

On Friday, the TDP moved a no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi-led government for denying Special Category Status as promised in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act 2014.

Guntur MP Galla Jayadev, who began the debate in Parliament, said that the TDP was moving the motion to destabilise the Centre due to Modi’s lack of fairness, lack of trust, lack of priority and the lack of an unbiased approach towards Andhra Pradesh.
