Seven people, including TDP MLA Arimilli Radhakrishna have been booked by Tanuku Rural Police in West Godavari on Friday, for detaining a sub-inspector and head constable for three hours.
“On Thursday, MLA Radhakrishna called a sub-inspector and head constable to his party office in Velpuru of Tanuku rural mandal from 8 pm to 11 pm at night. The Sub-Inspector, Srinivas on Friday filed a case against the minister to Tanuku Rular Police station,” police told The News Minute.
However, some media reports said that the policemen were detained from 6pm till midnight.
According to media reports, Tanuku MLA allegedly detained them for arresting TDP workers in SC Colony of Relangi village of Iragavaram mandal.
Following the complaint, police have registered a case against the minister and six others under section 342 (illegal detention) and 353 (obstructing official duties) of IPC, said the police.
However, Radhakrishna has reportedly denied the allegations saying he called the policemen to question about the arrest.
“I called the SI and constable to my camp office to question them on arrest of TDP workers. I wanted to know why YSRCP workers were not arrested as TDP workers were arrested on charges of group clashes with YSRCP. I sought to know why the main accused YSRC worker was roaming free. I never detained them. Is questioning detention? I will never keep quiet if injustice was meted out to TDP workers,” the MLA told Hans India.
Earlier this month, a similar case was reported in the district.
A case was registered against TDP MLA and government whip Chintamaneni Prabhakar for allegedly attacking police, while they were on duty in Denduluru of the district.
According to The Hindu, Assistant Sub Inspector J Papa Rao and his staff of Devarapalli police station were diverting traffic because of a village programme.
However, the minister who came to the spot late in the night started arguing with the police for diverting the traffic. He then allegedly abused and attacked the police, who were following orders from their superiors.
Following the incident, the ASI filed a complaint with Denduluru police against the MLA.
