Vijayawada, the metro in the making, is all set to end 2017 on a high note on Sunday night. Several parts of the city wear a festive look as revellers get ready to welcome the new year.

On New Year’s Eve, several events are set to be conducted in the city.

Unlike past years, this year is extra special as actors Tamannah Bhatia and Mehreen Pirzada, along with Paisavasool fame Kyra Dutt are set to perform at The Blast 2018, at Haailand Resorts. With a range of dishes and a variety of packages on offer, the party will also have music by DJ Jennifer Sinha.

Hotel Indraprastha is set to have a live DJ programme, and performances by actors Guruprasad and Mounika. The entry tickets start at Rs 1000.

Meanwhile, 10 Downing Street in the heart of the city is celebrating Infinity 2018 with a live DJ. The entry charges are priced between Rs 7,999 and Rs 9,999.

If it’s food that you want to start the year with, then you could head to the night street food stalls at Labbipet, where huge crowds are expected.

Traffic retrictions

While a series of events is set to take the city by storm, Vijayawada police are also getting ready to ensure that the streets are safe at night. On Sunday night, there will be checks for drunk driving at various spots between 10pm and 4am.

Kanthi Rana Tata, DCP (Law and Order) says, "All the busy circles will see inspections.”

He also asked all organisers who want to hold events at public places to ensure they have the right permissions. He also added that any unauthorised liquor selling will attract severe repercussions.
