If you’re wondering what’s the big deal about the dark theme, it’s all about the battery life.

If you have a smartphone that has received the latest Android Pie update, you might be enjoying its features and wondering what more the next version Android Q could bring. But someone got hold of the early build of the Android Q and shared it as well. One dominant aspect appears to be the dark theme feature that Google took up with the Pie version but is now planning to drive it in further by adopting a system-wide dark theme.

If you’re wondering what’s the big deal about the dark theme, it’s all about the battery life. A dark theme consumes less power and therefore an extended life for the battery. The use of power in the smartphones has been a common issue addressed by all stakeholders. When you hear about a new chipset being developed, one of the features being highlighted is how the new processor saves on the power usage.

This person has been able to download the Android Q build on to his Google Pixel 3XL and study some of the changes being considered by Google. Remember, this build is later converted to a preview version of the operating system for the developers to take a look and come up with their suggestions.

The other improvement that comes through in the next version of the Android OS is the control and management of apps. This has remained a challenge for Google since the general impression is that Apple and iOS provide a better security environment than Google does. Google has taken several steps in the recent past to address this issue. Some improvements have been brought in the Pie version and through updates in between. Now with the Android Q, you may find much more changes the way apps are allowed to function.

In particular, the access to personal information like location that apps use to seek, will now be restricted to just the duration the app is in use.
