One has known and heard of the crazy things that the fans of the Master Blaster Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar (SRT) do. But this one is the latest; a smartphone dedicated to the cricket legend is being launched on May 3 by a tech start-up Smartron India.

The phone is being called the srt.phone and the company has added the tagline ‘ Mastery at the Core to it’.

In a recent report, it is claimed that Sachin himself may promote the phone since he believes in encouraging home grown enterprises in the marketplace.

The company, Smartron India, plans to make the new smartphone available to customers exclusively through Flipkart. The phone is expected to be a mid-range edition with a price tag of under Rs.15, 000. The phone is likely to use the ‘Sachin’ theme to the hilt and Sachin fans can expect a lot of features in the phone dedicated to the legendary cricketer.

Interestingly, the same company had launched a phone and a notebook in 2016 and named them t.phone and t.book respectively. The phone is priced at Rs. 22,999 (the 5.5inch phone is being offered on their own site @Rs. 19,999 at the time of writing this article).

Even more interesting to note is that Sachin Tendulkar is said to have made investments himself in the start-up Smartron and is trying to promote this “Make in India” concept. The level of investment is not known but this may explain why he is lending his name to promote the phone. In fact, the company’s website openly acknowledges that Sachin Tendulkar is their brand ambassador and he is present during most of their high-profile media events and product launches.

The company would have also quickly realised that the Indian market is highly price sensitive and that is why they have re-worked their plans and a sub 15K phone is being offered now. Now, the next task for the company is to make people aware of the product so that they get a good number of buyers.
