Mruthyunjaya Homam to be performed to ward off 'curse' on Tollywood

The News Minute | March 16, 2015 | 11:45 am ISTSome members of the Telugu film industry said on Monday they have decided to perform a Mruthyunjaya Homam, a ceremonial Hindu ritual, to mark the death of nearly 15 popular Telugu artists in the recent past. "We lost a lot of prominent legends in the last two years due to which many think that the industry is cursed. I consulted some priests and they suggested the idea of this homam. It's believed to ward off evil and ensures harmony. It's for the goodwill of the entire Telugu industry," actor-producer Murali Mohan, president of Movies Artistes Association (MAA) tells The News Minute.The Telugu film industry, also known colloquially as Tollywood, has suffered major losses with the demise of many veteran as well as young film celebrities in 2014 like music composer Chakri, dubbing artist PJ Sharma, actor Uday Kiran, Nandumuri Janakiran from the NTR family, veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao and ace director Bapu.2015 is no better for the fraternity as it has already lost legends like Ahuti Prasad and movie moghul D Rama Naidu besides comedian MS Narayana and veteran director-producer V B Rajendra Prasad."According to the priests, the homam is meant to stop unnatural and untimely deaths," Mohan says..
