Celebrating the Year of Adventure Tourism, a photo exhibition with the theme ‘The Great Outdoors 2018’ is being held at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bengaluru from the 10th to 12th of December 2018. The exhibition is organised by Essen Communications in association with Karnataka Tourism.
From the 150 photo entries that were received, 100 photographs have been selected and put on display under the sections aero sports, aqua sports, terrestrial sports and offbeat adventure. These photographs showcase the serene surroundings of foreign locations and Indian states such as Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Leh and Ladakh, Uttara Khand, Andaman Islands and many more.

“There is a Karnataka section with images of high-lining in Ramnagara, off-roading in Sakleshpur, biking acrobatics, air show in Bengaluru and trekking in Coorg,” said Susheela Nair, director of Essen Communications.
From the photographs of 19 photographers, one best photograph from each section was selected by a jury consisting of Anantha Subramanyam, Chief Photographer of Bangalore Mirror and D Radhakrishnan. The winners will be awarded a cash price of Rs 6000, sponsored by Cedar Hill Preparatory School, New Jersey.

The aero sports section is sure to capture viewers with its gravity-defying shots - skydiving in Seattle, hot air ballooning in Turkey, aqua para sailing, para jumping in Tamil Nadu, and skydiving with the tricolour Indian flag on Independence Day. The best action photo in this category was awarded to Dheeraj Rajpal M for his picture of hot air ballooning in Cappadocia, Turkey.
The aqua sports section includes spectacular photos of river rafting in Nepal and jet skiing in the backwaters of Thirumurthy Dam near Udumalpet in Tamil Nadu. However, the prize-winning photos were scuba diving shots taken by father and son duo, Nanda Kumar MN and Dheeraj Nanda. Their pictures show a glimpse of the magnificent marine flora and fauna and underwater landscape in Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives and Philippines.
The terrestrial sports section features photographs of the most sought-after Himalayan trek, the Sar Pass trek, awe-inspiring Chadar frozen river trek, bungee jumping in Rishikesh, cave exploration in Meghalaya and wildlife safari in Thailand. The best photo was that of the Kambala race in Mangaluru by Dr Akhter Husain. The offbeat adventure section also included mid-action photos of a muddy football match, smith grind on a skateboard and high-lining
The wide array of adventure sports and action-oriented photographs is definitely a treat to the eyes of travel and photography enthusiasts. And the captivating shots of outdoor activities is sure to rekindle one’s urge to travel.
