Actor Siddharth schools Javed Akhtar on Tamil film title, poet 'punishes' himself

After watching Rajiv Menon’s film ‘Sarvam Thaala Mayam’, Javed Akhtar was all praises but a couple of embarrassing typos crept into his tweet.

The auto-correct tool, more often than not, has been the reason for many of our embarrassments on social media. Well, it turns out Padma Bhushan awardee and renowned Hindi poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar too can get into such muddles, courtesy auto-correct.

Having just watched Rajiv Menon’s Tamil film Sarvam Thaala Mayam, the lyricist was all praises. “Well made well performed, very sensitive. It is an unusual story about music and social justice. Achhi picture Hai (sic),” he wrote from his Twitter handle.

This would’ve been an ordinary tweet if not for some abominable typos in the film’s title where ‘Thalam’ became ‘Thalamus’ and ‘Mayam' became ‘Maryam’. Javed’s ‘Sarvam Thalamus Maryam’ instead of ‘Sarvam Thala Mayam’ was not missed by many on Twitter.

Actor Siddharth, who has starred in films like Rang De Basanti and Jigarthanda, tweeted a hilarious response to Javed’s tweet, not unlike the latter’s typo, saying - “Javed Tamilus Killingam. achha naam hai.”

But then the popular lyricist was quick to own up to his mistake and soon after his first post, he posted another tweet with the correct film title.

Explaining that he understood Siddharth’s feelings, the poet offered his unconditional apologies and explained that this was how he felt when someone “murders Hindi or Urdu”.

He also wrote that he had gone one step ahead and “punished” himself by writing the title again and again.

If only all comments were made and taken lightly on social media...
