Allu Arjun and ‘Arya’ fame director Sukumar to team up for 'AA20'

Ending speculation among all fans on Monday, it was announced that actor Allu Arjun would be signing his next film, his twentieth, with none other than director Sukumar. Sukumar incidentally happened to be the director who wielded the megaphone for the film Arya, starring Allu Arjun and Anuradha Mehta in the lead roles. The 2004 release film had propelled Allu Arjun into stardom overnight. Fans of the duo are hoping that Allu Arjun’s twentieth film will recreate the same magic.

The film, which has been dubbed AA20 (for Allu Arjun’s 20th film) by Twitterati, will be produced by Mythreyi Movie Makers. Shooting will commence once the ‘stylish star’ finishes up his schedule with director Trivikram, with whom he is currently shooting his 19th film.

Fans took to Twitter to express their appreciation for the latest announcement.

In addition to Arya, the Allu Arjun and Sukumar duo also worked on the film Arya 2, which released in 2009 and in which Kajal Aggarwal was paired opposte the actor. Though Arya 2 failed to recreate the same magic at the box office as the first film, fans of the actor were all praise for the lead character.

Sukumar debuted as a director with his 2004 venture Arya which was produced by Dil Raju. The film was met with rave reviews and enjoyed by critics and moviegoers alike. Many compared it to Pawan Kalyan’s Tholiprema. The movie tells the story of Arya, played by Allu Arjun, who falls in love with Anuradha Mehta’s character Geetha who has been intimidated into a relationship with Ajay, a spoiled brat and son of a local MP. It revolves around these three characters and how Arya eventually manages to get Geetha to realise her true feelings.
