While a financial issue seems to be the reason, there is no announcement on the film’s release date yet from the producers.

Update- The movie was released across theatres on Friday evening, after an initial hiccup. Please read story to understand what the initial issue was.

Amala Paul’s most awaited Aadai has been cancelled just hours before its release. Theatres have cancelled the shows on Friday due to non-receipt of the KDM and are either refunding tickets or offering an alternative to those who’ve booked their tickets. Aadai seems to be embroiled in a financial tussle, a common reason for last minute cancellations in Tamil cinema.

Aadai, censored A, was scheduled to hit the screens on Friday. The film is directed by Rathna Kumar and its Telugu dubbed version was to release in Andhra and Telangana regions considering the huge popularity that Amala Paul enjoys there.

The film, eagerly awaited by the team and Amala herself, has been attributed to be a “game-changer” in the actor’s career. The film’s first-look posters, teasers, and trailer had created good anticipation among fans.

Besides Amala Paul in the lead role, Aadai has Bijili Ramesh, Vivek Prasanna, Sriranjani and Sarithran in important roles. Pradeep Kumar has composed music for this flick with cinematography handled by Vijay Karthik Kanna and editing by Shafique Mohammed Ali. Aadai has been bankrolled by V Studios.

Quite recently Vijay Sethupathi’s Sindhubaadh too faced a similar problem. An ongoing spat between the film’s producer and a Hyderabad based production house resulted in a High court petition that stayed the film’s release until dues were settled. The Hyderabad HC had ordered a stay on the release of the film over after Arka Media works, the makers of Baahubali, had filed a case against the producers of Sindhubaadh over unpaid dues. After much negotiation, the film released on June 27.

Vishal’s Ayogya, scheduled to release on May 10, was cancelled on the day of its release. The film, after much negotiations, released the next day.

Of the other indefinitely delayed projects in Tamil cinema are Gautham Menon’s Dhruva Natchiathiram and Enai Nokki Payum Thotta, Nayanthara’s Kolayudhir Kaalam, Trisha’s Garjanai, and Karthik Naren’s Naragasooran.
