Dhanush-Vetrimaaran combo is one that sets up high expectations. The duo is teaming up for the fourth time after Vada Chennai, Pollathavan and Aadukalam. Their last film, Vada Chennai chronicles thirty years in the life of an accidental gangster in North Madras and did well at the box office.

It was earlier announced that the team would take a break with a different film before commencing on Vada Chennai part 2. This film has been titled Asuran and will be based on a Tamil novel titled 'Vetkai'.

The official first look of the film was released on Twitter recently. Dhanush tweeted saying, "As #maari2’s success news is pouring in from everywhere, I’m delighted to announce my next with @VetriMaaran #Asuran .. will be produced by @theVcreations thanu sir."

The film will be bankrolled by Kalaipuli S Thanu, who had recently bankrolled VIP 2.

Dhanush's film Maari 2, which is a sequel to the hit 2015 film Maari, saw him return as a dhoti-clad, mustache-twirling rowdy. The film that released recently has had lukewarm response at the box-office.

Directed by Balaji Mohan, the film marks the reunion of Dhanush and composer Yuvan Shankar Raja after 9 years. Produced by Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Film, it stars him in the lead role and also has Sai Pallavi and Tovino Thomas playing important roles.

The others in the star cast include Krishna Kulasekaran, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Vidya Pradeep and Aranthangi Nisha.

Dhanush also awaits the long pending project with director Gautham Menon titled Enai Noki Paayum Thota.
