Director AL Vijay married Dr R Aishwarya at a private ceremony in Chennai on July 12. AL Vijay had announced his wedding a few weeks ago via a press note.

“Just like everyone, my life travelled through different stages involving success, failure, joy and pain. But what stood by me through all such occasions is the strong support from the press media,” Vijay wrote in the note.

The Thalaivaa director, who was previously married to actor Amala Paul, announced his divorce in 2016 amidst controversy. The couple separated within two years of being married and their divorce was made official in 2017. AL Vijay's father had said it was Amala's decision to continue acting after marriage which had led to the breakdown of the relationship. However, Vijay denied that this was the real reason.

Amala Paul and director AL Vijay reportedly met on the sets of Deiva Thirumagal, in which the former played a pivotal role while the latter directed the film. She also starred as the female lead in the Vijay starrer Thalaivaa which was directed by Vijay.

Speaking about her divorce, Amala had said that it was a very tough phase in her life. At the time she had said, “I can’t say whether it was good or bad decision, but was very painful for me. It wasn’t easy to arrive at it, especially when we both are from the film industry.”

Vijay who is currently directing the Jayalalithaa biopic titled Thalaivi with Kangana Ranaut has also made other successful films like Madraspattinam and Deiva Thirumagal. He received the Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Director for Deiva Thirumagal.
