Director Sukumar directed Mahesh Babu in the 2014 release 1 Nenokkadine but the film received mixed response at the box office. Following this, the actor-director duo is teaming up after a gap of three years and the latter is determined to come up with a mega-hit for the star.

Sukumar’s last release, Rangasthalam, starring Ram Charan Teja made it to the silver screens a couple of months ago and took a massive opening. Also, the film got positive reviews which set the cash registers ringing. Rangasthalam was made on a budget of Rs 60 crores and went on to fetch Rs 210 crores, according to trade sources.

With this big success under his belt, the director has set about to work on his next. He had signed up Mahesh Babu to play the lead role in the film and here’s some interesting news about the project.

Sources in the know say that Sukumar has planned out an impressive crime thriller for the star and he will be seen playing a CID officer in it. This news certainly has all Mahesh Babu fans craving for more about the project but for that, we may need to wait for some more time.

Mahesh Babu’s last film release was Bharath Ane Nenu, which was released on April 20 worldwide. A political thriller, this film was a big box office success as well. Directed by Koratala Siva, Bharath Ane Nenu had Mahesh Babu playing the Chief Minister of Andhra for the first time in his career and it did go very well with his fans.

Made on a budget of Rs 65 crores, went on to collect Rs 230 crores within 19 days of its release worldwide. The film is  all set to release in Tamil on May 31. With the Telugu version of Bharat Ane Nenu doing well at the box office, its makers are confident of its success in Tamil as well.

Mahesh Babu has posted on his micro-blogging page, “Feeling overwhelmed seeing the love of fans from all across the world ధన్యవాదాలు , நன்றி, Thank You, धन्यवाद #MaheshBabu1stDay1stShow.”

Will Mahesh Babu and Sukumar be able to set a new box office record with their film? Well, for that we need to wait and watch.
