Filmmaker AL Vijay’s next film is with Prabhudheva, with whom he had worked in last year’s horror hit Devi. Their new project, a Telugu-Tamil bilingual, was officially launched on Friday and the team has even started shooting.

While sources have clarified that the project is not a sequel to Devi, even though Vijay has plans to make one in the future; reports have emerged that this film could be the remake of Dulquer Salmaan starrer Charlie. Not long ago, Charlie’s Tamil remake was announced with R Madhavan and Vijay was supposed to direct the project for Pramod Films.

A source close to Vijay said that he dropped Charlie remake because he didn’t want to do a remake at this point in his career. He had said this a few months ago when he had just begun work on Karu, his horror film with Sai Pallavi in the lead. However, having signed a film with Pramod Films, he was obliged to work and is believed to have revived the same project with Prabhudheva. Aishwarya Rajesh has been roped in for a crucial role. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalised.

CS Sam of Vikram Vedha fame is composing the music. Nirav Shah will crank the camera for the project, which is expected to hit the screens early next year. Vijay’s next release will be Karu, which will touch upon the sensitive topic of abortion. It marks the Tamil debut of Sai Pallavi and she’s dubbed in her own voice for the film.
