An FIR has been registered against websites Tamil rockers and Tamildb.net for illegally uploading Udhayanidhi Stalin starrer 'Ippadai Vellum'. The FIR has been filed by the Anti-Video Piracy Cell of the CB-CID following a complaint given by Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC).

In the last few years, the website had uploaded numerous movies on the very day of their release. There have been various legal complaints filed against the administrators of the website and this is the first time that action is being taken against websites indulging in piracy by the Anti-Video Piracy Cell.

TFPC’s Twitter handle announced the news and said, "First FIR against Tamilrockers and Tamildbox - IPREC (Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Cell) initiated action on complaint filed by Tamil Film Producer Council. Further will be escalated to central government and to Embassies. #killpiracy  #tamilrockersjail #tfpc"

The General Secretary of the Nadigar Sangam and President of the TFPC Vishal, who had promised to curb piracy in the film industry, has been working towards this goal right from the day he took over as the President. The actor – producer won the Producers Council elections hands down and within a couple of days of being elected as the President, he set up an anti-piracy cell headed by director Mysski.

While there are many websites that are involved in piracy of Tamil films, two names prominently feature in any discussion on the subject -Tamilrockers and Tamilgun. A few months back, Gowri Shankar, said to be the owner of piracy website Tamilgun.in, was arrested in Chennai.

These websites are described as a one-stop shop for pirated South Indian movies. They will first release a camcorder copy of films shot on the sly in cinemas and later they will replace the “camera prints” with better formats, including DVD versions. The bulk of the website’s earnings are from pop-up advertisements and membership fee.
