Dulquer Salman’s role as the legendary actor Gemini Ganesan in Mahanati has won him accolades from all quarters. The actor, who has been accepting challenging roles, has said in an interview that he would be very uncomfortable doing safe roles.

He has been quoted by the Indian Express as saying: “We all knew we were doing something important, something very special. To tell the story of legendary actress Savitri was something I believed in. This was a role away from my home territory in Kerala, hence an added challenge.”

Titled Mahanati in Telugu and Nadigayar Thilagam in Tamil, it is a biographical period film based on the life of former South Indian actress Savitri. The film had Keerthy Suresh playing Savitri while Dulquer Salman played her husband and actor Gemini Ganesan.

Several top stars and directors including Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Naresh, Krish, Srinivas Avasarala and Sandeep Vanga appeared in guest roles in this flick. The film released to packed houses on May 11 and is doing well at the box office.
