Indiatimes falls for 'incorrect' men's rights statistics, apologises

Its second apology was more profuse than its first

Indiatimes website, owned by the Times group, has apologised and taken down a men’s rights campaign from its website following outrage.

This is the tone of the tweets that were posted by Indiatimes, before women's rights activists and other Twitter users criticised the media house for its campaign

Twitter users commented on Indiatimes’ #LawsAgainstMen campaign on Saturday, tweeting to Satyan Gajwani, CEO of Times Internet, about the “misogynist” posters.

Soon an apology was issued. At around 5 pm, the Indiatimes Twitter handle said: “We have deleted the #LawsAgainstMen album. Our facts were incorrect. We apologise to our readers!”

Again, at around 8 pm, it tweeted again, with a more profuse apology:

The deleted tweets included statistics which claimed that 98 percent of domestic violence cases were false, and others which claimed that certain scenarios would land men in jail for domestic violence. The album also appears to have been quietly removed from its Facebook page. These are the posters from the campaign.
