Days after actor Irrfan Khan shared that he could have a rare disease, his wife and writer Sutapa Sikdar has said that they are "optimistic and almost sure of the victory” (sic).

In a post on Facebook, Sutapa called Irrfan a warrior who has been fighting every obstacle bravely.

"My best friend and my partner is a ‘warrior', he is fighting every obstacle with tremendous grace and beauty," she wrote.

She apologised for not being able to answer calls and thanked his fans and well-wishers for their concern and prayers.

"I am grateful to god and my partner for making me a warrior too. I am at present focused in the strategies of the battlefield which I have to conquer. It wasn’t and isn’t and is not going to be easy but the hope ignited by the magnitude of family ,friends and fans of irrfan has made me only optimistic and almost sure of the victory," (sic) she stated.

Earlier, Irrfan in his statement, did not name the disease and had said that he would share the final diagnosis within a week to 10 days.

Sutapa also asked people not to speculate about the disease. "I know curiosity germinates from concern but lets turn our curiosity from what it is, to what it should be. Lets change the leaf," she said.

"Lets not waste our precious energies to only know what it is and just pray to make it what it should be. My humble request to all of you is to concentrate on the song of life, to dance of life to victory. My family will soon join in this dance of life.

Thank you all from bottom of our heart. Sutapa irrfan babil ayaan," (sic) she wrote.

Earlier this week, Irrfan had put out a statement on social media informing that he could have a rare disease.

"Sometimes you wake up with a jolt with life shaking you up. The last 15 days, my life has been a suspense story. Little had I known that my search for rare stories would make me find a rare disease," he said.

"I have never given up and have always fought for my choices and always will. My family and friends are with me and we are working it out the best way possible. In trying times, please don't speculate as I will myself share with you my story within a week - 10 days, when further investigations come with a conclusive diagnosis. Till then, wish the best for me," he added.

Irrfan and Deepika Padukone, who starred in the hit film Piku, had been working together on Sapna Di, the biopic of mafia queen from Mumbai in the 1980s, Rahima Khan, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.

Last month, the filmmaker had announced that he was pushing back his film. "I am pushing back the film by a few months as both of my lead actors are down with different health problems. Irrfan is down with jaundice," he had said.
