In an interview, actor Jayaram, while answering a number of questions ranging from his family to his decades long career, spoke about the competition with his young son Kalidas who had begun as a child actor and is now doing lead roles in movies. Jayaram in his interview to Manorama Online said that there is indeed some friendly competition.

He has been quoted as saying, “At home, all four of us are the best of friends. I might be Kannan’s (Kalidas’s) dearest friend. Aswathy (wife and former actor) is my best friend while Chakki (daughter) is hers. We have so much fun together and share interesting things with each other. It was during the same time that the songs from my movie and Kannan’s movie got released. So I told him to see whose songs become super hit. These are all funny things that happen between us. I wish all the movies do incredibly well and that is my genuine prayer.”

Jayaram, when asked about Kamal Haasan, with whom he has acted in several films, said “He is someone who lives only for the cinema. Don’t ask me about anything else. I don’t know anything about the political matters. He truly is an encyclopedia of cinema.”

Jayaram’s last release was Lonappante Mamodeesa, which hit the marquee on February 1st. Set in a village backdrop, Lonappante Mamodisa had Kaniha, Anna Rajan, Hareesh Kanaran and Innocent in pivotal roles with Shanthi Krishna, Nisha Sarang and Eva Pavithran playing Jayaram’s sisters.  The actor currently has Grandfather and Marconi Mathayi in his kitty. The shooting of both the films is underway and will be hitting the marquee this year. In Tamil, he has signed up Party, which is set to go on the floors later this year.

Marconi Mathai will have Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi playing a pivotal character, making his debut in Malayalam. Jayaram will be seen as an ex-army man working as a security guard in a bank. The film is bankrolled under the banner Satyam Audios.
