In what could be his last on-screen appearance, actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan has finally begun shooting for Shankar’s Indian 2  sequel of Indian, which was a blockbuster hit. It will mark the return of Haasan as the freedom fighter turned vigilante Senapathy, the role which the actors popularised as Indian thatha.

Having teased fans with the first poster of the film in January this year on the occasion of Pongal, the film went on floors and a 180-days long schedule was planned. But due to undisclosed reasons, the film's shooting came to a halt. While there were also rumors that the project was shelved, it was also said that Haasan seems to be allergic to the prosthetic make-up used for Senapathy role.

According to sources in the know, the shooting of the sequel has been stalled citing Kamal Haasan’s political commitments for the upcoming elections and will resume in the month of May.

The first poster featured Haasan displaying his ‘varma-kalai’ as the Octogenarian vigilante Senapathy from Indian. The poster, which was released sans any hullabaloo, was received very well and was trending on social media in no time.

It has already been confirmed that Kajal Aggarwal plays the leading lady but the makers are yet to reveal the complete cast and crew details. It is also believed that Siddharth, who had worked with Shankar in Boys, has been roped in for a crucial role and he will be seen playing the role of a cop.

The film will be predominantly shot in places like Taiwan and Ukraine, apart from Chennai and Hyderabad. In preparation for his role, Kamal has been closely working with a team of international trainers to shed weight in the highly anticipated sequel to Indian, which featured Haasan in dual roles as father and son.

According to reliable sources, a team of trainers from the US was flown down in December to help Haasan achieve the desired look for the film, which will have music by Anirudh Ravichander.
