The makers of the historical Veeramadevi had been facing a legal battle over an individual filing a petition in the Madurai High Court on casting former adult star Sunny Leone in the titular role. Hearing the case, the judges held that all actors can play any roles that they deem fit and a film cannot be banned over such matters. It may be recalled that some fringe groups, mainly the Kannada Rakshana Vedike Yuva Sene, have been protesting against the film over Sunny Leone playing the lead role. However, the petitioner withdrew the case later.
On Wednesday, Veeramadevi’s producer Ponse Stephen had tweeted in Tamil, lamenting that people who filed such cases do not know the pain of those putting their money into producing movies.
எதையும் சந்திப்போம்.

Directed by VC Vadivudaiyan, the film is being bankrolled by Ponse Stephen under his banner Steeves Corner on a budget of Rs 100 crore. A period flick, Veeramadevi will rely heavily on computer graphics and the team has reportedly earmarked Rs 40 crore just for this.
According to reports, the historical is being made in five different languages – Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu – simultaneously. The high budget film also features Nasser in a pivotal role with Arya fame Navdeep roped in to play the villain. The film has Amrish Ganesh composing the music and will be shot in several locations across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.
Sunny Leone is upbeat about this project and had tweeted on the release of its first look in May this year, “So beyond excited to share this with you! First look poster of #veeramadevi #veeramahadevi #veermahadevi”.
