Mammootty’s 'Peranbu' to be screened at Shanghai International Film Festival

A bilingual, to be released in Malayalam and Tamil, the film has been directed by the National Award winning director Ram.

Peranbu, starring Mammootty first premiered at the 47th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in January before its release at the theatres and was adjudged one of the 20 best movies. The film will be shown on June 16 at 3.45pm at the Shanghai Hongkou JinYI cinema, on June 17 at 3.45pm at the Aurora International Cinema - Shanghai Global Harbour and at 8.45pm on June 19 at the The Grand New International cinema.

Peranbu stars Anjali, Sarathkumar, Samuthirakani in important roles and Thanga Meengal fame Baby Sadhana will be seen as Mammootty’s daughter in the movie. The film will feature Mammootty in the role of a middle-class father working as a taxi driver abroad to sustain his family living in India.

Anjali Ameer, a transgender model, was roped in to play an important role in the film and this will be her debut in the movie industry. According to sources close to the team, she was signed up on Mammootty’s insistence as he wanted to give an opportunity for someone from the community.  The film also stars Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kaniha,Vadivukkarasi, Sadhana, Livingston, Suraj Venjaramood, Siddique and Aruldoss in supporting roles.

Produced by PL Thenappan under his banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films, Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for this venture while Theni Easwar has cranked the camera and A Sreekar Prasad has edited it.

Mammootty recently completed a schedule of Mamankam and is abroad on vacation. Soon after his return next week, he will be joining the sets of the Telugu biopic Yaatra, where he will be essaying the role of the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
