Director Mari Selvaraj’s Pariyerum Perumal is one film that found patrons across the southern states in recent times. Based on popular demand, the film was screened in Karnataka on October 12 and then later in Kerala on October 26 and later in the Telugu speaking states.

The film has now released on Amazon Prime making it possible for those who’ve been disappointed in its short-lived theatrical run.

The film that has been produced by Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions was first released in Tamil on September 28.

Some of the other new releases from Tamil cinema on Amazon Prime include Kadai Kutty Singam, Kaala, U-Turn, Nota, and Tamizh Padam 2, to name a few.

Pariyerum Perumal is Mari Selvaraj’s directorial debut starring Kathir, Anandhi and Yogi Babu in the lead. The film’s music has been composed by Santhosh Narayanan and the cinematography is by Sridhar.

The film was not just appreciated by movie buffs but those in the film industry as well. Top actors and film personalities heaped praises on the film with many taking to the social networking sites to urge others to watch the film in theatres.

Filmmaker Nagraj Manjule, who made films like Fandry and Sairat, DMK president MK Stalin and actor Vijay are among the few well-known personalities who extended their support for this film and urged others to watch it.

Kathir, who played the titular Periyerum Perumal, an aspiring law student, said that he went out of his way to bag the role after listening to its script.

When asked if the story has been inspired by his past experiences, director Mari said, “More than inspiration, I’d say it’s a platform built by my experiences. All the stories in the world happen to everyone. But it’s only when that story is placed on a certain platform that it becomes interesting. The law college setting is such a platform. It was a familiar one from which I could weave in characters and experiences. But it’s not my personal story.”
