This is perhaps one of the rare feats that any Indian star has achieved in the United Arab Emirates. According to reports, Mohanlal’s Drishyam tops the list of longest running films at the theatres in the UAE with a 125-day theatrical run. And the star’s Pulimurugan, which missed the 100th day by just two days, ended up being screened at the theatres for 98 days and grossed Rs. 37.09 crores. While Drishyam is on the top, Pulimurugan is in the third place. Titanic, starring Leonardo Dicarpio and Kate Winslet, is in the second place with a 110-day run at the box office.

Drishyam, released in 2013, starred Mohanlal and Meena as the lead pair. The thriller was directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner Aashirvad Cinemas. Drishyam was a smash hit and was remade in all regional languages – Tamil, Kannada and Telugu – and Hindi.

Released last year, Pulimurugan, starred Mohanlal and Kamalini Mukherjee. Directed by Vysakh, the action adventure also had Jagapati Babu, Lal, Vinu Mohan, and Bala in crucial roles. The film was produced by Tomichan Mulakuppadam for his banner Mulakuppadam Films. Talks are on to remake to this film in other languages and an official announcement is expected any time soon.
