'Mookuthi' Murugan wins Vijay TV's 'Super Singer' 7, to sing for Anirudh Ravichander

Murugan also won a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh.

The title winner of Super Singer Season 7, a music reality show,that airs on Vijay TV during the weekends, was announced on Sunday. The winner Murugan, popularly known as 'Mookuthi Murugan' on the show, hails from Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu. He has won a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh and an opportunity to sing for music composer Anirudh Ravichander.

Murugan beat contestants Vikram, Sam Vishal, Gautam and Punya who were in the Top 5 with him to emerge the winner. First runner-up Vikram was awarded Rs 25 lakh while Vishal and Punya were adjudged second runners-up.

The seventh season of the reality music show went on air on 27 April 2019 and was telecast every Saturday and Sunday at 8 pm on the channel. The show was hosted by Ma Ka Pa Anand and Priyanka Deshpande while playback singers P Unnikrishnan, Anuradha Sriram, Shweta Mohan and Benny Dayal were on the judges panel. Season 6 too was hosted and judged by the same team.

In season 6, folk singer Senthil Ganesh emerged as the title winner of the show and got an opportunity to sing in AR Rahman's composition. Senthil, however, made his debut as a playback singer in Composer D Imman’s Seemaraja.

Congratulations came pouring in for Murugan as soon as he was announced the winner. The top 5 contestants had to perform in two battle rounds, following which the audience were allowed to cast their votes. The votes were then counted alongside the scores given by the judges and the winner was announced.

The grand finale was also attended by anchor DD and saw performances by singer Shweta Mohan, Benny Dayal and also Bigg Boss season 3 title winner Mugen Rao.

Anirudh who then came up on stage also performed a quick version of his composition “Aluma Doluma".
