Mugen Rao wins ‘Bigg Boss’ Tamil 3, Sandy is runner-up

Bigg Boss Tamil’s third season which premiered on June 23 was a major success compared to the previous two seasons. The finale was a gala affair, just as we thought it would be. Fans of Bigg Boss Tamil were waiting for this day with bated breath and the whole episode was a nail-biting affair for every fan. Sandy, who regularly commences the show with a power-packed performance dedicated to the show in the grand finale during the previous seasons, was seen as a contestant this season.

Malaysian actor-singer Mugen Rao won the trophy and the cash prize of Rs 50 lakh, taking home the prize after spending 105 days in the house. The runner-up of the show was choreographer Sandy while Sri Lankan newsreader Losliya came third. Actor Sherin was the final contestant to be evicted from the show. According to reports, a total of 20 crore votes was recorded in the finals polls, out of which winner Mugen received over 7 crore votes.

Mugen Rao, who was the direct finalist by winning the ticket to the finale contest, was competing against Sandy, Sherin and Losliya. Though Mugen did take home the trophy, it seemed like the real star of the show was Tharshan. Audiences who attended the finale reportedly cheered the loudest for Tharshan, along with the rest of the eliminated contestants even as they were waiting for the result.

Hosted by Kamal Haasan, the show began on with 16 contestants from various fields. Tharshan Thiyagarajah, Sandy, Mugen Rao, Meera Mithun, Fathima Babu, Losliya Mariyanesan, Sakshi Agarwal, Jangiri Madhumitha, Kavin, Abhirami Venkatachalam, Saravanan, Vanitha Vijayakumar, Cheran, Sherin Shringar, Mohan Vaidya and Reshma Pasupuleti were the contestants who entered the show on the opening day. Later, Meera Mithun and Kasthuri Shankar made wild card entries into the show.

From the beginning of the show till the curtains dropped, the contestants and the host were mired in many controversies. Despite these, the show’s popularity continued to rise. This season had two eliminations. Actor Saravanan was eliminated for admitting to molesting and groping women on buses on one episode while Kamal was discussing an issue between director Cheran and Meera Mithun. Later Madhumitha was eliminated after she attempted to inflict self-harm after an argument with the other housemates.
