It's so far been pictures of Mammootty, bearded and melancholic, in posters of the much-anticipated Peranbu. Now the trailer is out, showing more faces, characters, and glimpses of a father's plight that the movie would be about.

We see the daughter (played by Sadhana Venkatesh) is a person with disability. She is playing with a Barbie doll in an unusual manner that disturbs the dad (Mammootty). Something's gone wrong, and something else keeps going wrong, is what you gather from the various disturbed characters shown in the two-minute trailer. Mammootty’s famous deep voice ends it with this voice-over: “I am writing this story based on a few select incidents from my life. And I write this just so you realise how blessed your lives are.”

Actors Anjali, Anjali Ameer, Samuthirakani all play important roles in the film, written and directed by Ram, who has made such films as Kattradh Thamizh, Taramani and Thanga Meengal. Sadhana had won the National Film Award for Best Child Artiste for her performance in Thanga Meengal.

Peranbu had premiered last year at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam and received good reviews. After another screening at the Shanghai International Film Festival, Peranbu was featured in the International Film Festival of India in Goa. Director Ram had said in an interview to Mathrubhumi then, "When I thought who should be chosen as Amudan, only a single face came to my mind and it was Mammootty. I have seen many Malayalam movies. Mammookka’s Amaram, Thaniyavarthanam and Mrigaya are all my favourite movies. I was also impressed by Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha. MT Vasudevan Nair’s films and writings have influenced me. I would have withdrawn this project if Mammootty refused to do it.”

Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for this film with Theni Eswar wielding the camera and Suriya Pradhaman editing it. The film is bankrolled by PL Thenappan under his banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films. Peranbu is a bilingual that will be released in Tamil and Malayalam simultaneously.

The film is expected to release in February.
