According to industry reports, it looks like the release of the Rajinikanth starrer Kaala may be advanced. The makers of this film have maintained all this while that it will be out only after the Rajini – Shankar venture 2.0. So, it is interesting to note the news of its release being preponed. However, there is no official confirmation on this yet.

Kaala was initially planned as a Deepavali 2018 release.

It may be mentioned here that the release of 2.0 was postponed a couple of times before and it was expected that the film will be out this summer. However, with the delay in the VFX work, which is happening in several studios across the globe, getting delayed, it now looks like Kaala will grace the theatres first.

While 2.0, a magnum opus made on a budget of Rs 450 crore is being bankrolled by Lyca Productions, Kaala is being produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films and will be distributed by Lyca Productions.

Directed by Pa Ranjith, Kaala is touted to be a gangster film that has Rajnikanth playing the title role. The rest of the star cast includes Huma Qureshi, Nana Patekar, Anjali Patil, Sukanya, Easwari Rao and Samuthirakani in important roles. Santhosh Narayanan is the music director of this film with Ruben editing it.

With 2.0’s release pushed to August this year and speculated to be an Independence Day weekend release, Kaala is expected to be a Tamil New Year’s release. However, there is no official clarification and we have to wait for the producers to make a statement on the release date.

If the news that Kaala will be a Tamil New Year’s release turns out to be true, fans will be happy that they will get to see their idol on the silver screens during the festive season. It may be noted here that Pa Ranjith had directed Rajini earlier in Kabali, which turned out to be a huge hit.
