Rajinikanth’s '2.0' all set to release in China and Russia

While the film will release in China on July 12, it is expected to hit the screens in Russia on July 25.

Following its terrific run domestically as well as in major international markets, Superstar Rajinikanth’s 2.0 is now eyeing a wide release in China followed by Russia. The film is set to release in China on the 12th of July across 56,000 screens making it the widest release for any foreign language film in the country, out of which 47,000 screens will release the film in 3D format.

Lyca productions will release the film in China in association with HY Media.

According to sources, the film will have a China premiere on June 28 where key cast and crew are expected to attend. If indeed 2.0 manages to release in said number of screens, it will be the widest 3D release for any foreign language film in history. The makers are now eyeing a wide release in Russia as well. The dubbed Russian version is all set to hit the screens on 25th July. Meanwhile, a Russian trailer of the film is going viral on the internet.

Directed by Shankar, 2.0 is a sequel to his 2010 hit Enthiran that grossed Rs.450 crores worldwide.The film, which was released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, had the widest release for an Indian film in 10,500 screens. The movie marked the return of Rajinikanth as scientist Vaseegaran and Chitti robot. He was also seen playing the titular character 2.0, the reloaded version of Chitti. Akshay Kumar, who debuted in the role of an antagonist in southern cinema, was seen playing an ornithologist who uses the fifth force to wreak havoc and take revenge when he loses his fight to telecom companies while trying to save birds from dying from the emission of mobile towers.

Produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under his banner Lyca Productions, 2.0 was made on a massive budget. It is the most expensive film to be made in India till date. The film’s technical crew comprises AR Rahman for songs with the background score done by him A. R. Rahman and Qutub-E-Kripa, Nirav Shah for camera and Anthony for editing.
