Rekha to play Tovino’s mom in ‘Edakkad Battalion 06’

The film will be directed by debutant Swapnesh K Nair and scripted by P Balachandran, who will also play Tovino’s dad in the film.

Actor Rekha, who has been part of several popular movies in Malayalam and Tamil, is going to play Tovino Thomas’s mother in the upcoming film Edakkad Battalion 06. Wielding the megaphone for this venture will be debut director Swapnesh K Nair. P Balachandran has penned the script for this film and he will be seen playing Tovino’s father in it. Joy Mathew, Sudheesh, Samyuktha Menon and Abu Saleem have been roped in to play pivotal roles. Reports are that Edakkad Battalion 06 has been inspired by a true story, the details of which are kept under wraps for now. Tovino Thomas will be playing an army officer in it.

Tovino’s And the Oscar Goes To... premiered at the Alberta Film Festival in Canada recently and has won critical acclaim and four awards – Best Actor, Best Film, Best Supporting Actress and Best Director. Donning the director’s robes for And the Oscar Goes To… is Salim Ahamed. Anu Sithara shared screen space with Tovino in this entertainer. The film has a very talented technical crew with Bijibal roped in to score the music, Madhu Ambat for cinematography and the Oscar-winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty for sound mixing and designing. A major portion of the film was shot in the US and Canada. It is scheduled to hit the marquee in India this month.

He also has another film releasing soon – Luca, an investigative thriller directed by debutant Arun  Bose. Tovino and Ahaana will play the lead in the film, whose teaser that was released recently, features several cute and romantic scenes between the pair, along with mystery and suspense inducing scenes towards the end.

Tovino’s last film release in India was Virus in which he played Kozhikode District Collector Paul K Abraham based on the real-life Collector UV Jose. Virus, directed by Aashiq Abu, has a notable line-up for stars in the cast including Asif Ali, Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, Rahman, Remya Nambeesan, and Revathy.
