Release of Mammootty's film ‘Unda’ postponed to June 14

The plan was to have it as a Ramzan special but it had to be postponed due to incomplete post production.

Mammootty’s fans are in for a big disappointment as the star’s film Unda will not hit the silver screens for Eid as planned earlier. The plan was to have it as a Ramzan special but it had to be postponed due to incomplete post production. Reports are that Unda will now hit the marquee on June 14th. The preparations for it are currently underway.

Directed by Khalid Rahman, Unda is an action comedy that is bankrolled by Moviee Mill's Krishnan Sethukumar and Gemini Studios. It is co-written by Khalid and Harshad. The film has Mammootty playing a police officer, with Shine Tom Chacko, Jacob Gregory, Arjun Ashokan and Omkar Das Manikpuri in supporting roles. Asif Ali, Vinay Forrt, and Sudhi Koppa will be seen making cameo appearances in this film.

The music of the film is by Prashant Pillai and the cinematography is handled by Jimshi Khalid and Sajith Purushan. Unda is about a team of policemen headed by Mammootty’s character sent to the naxal prone areas in Chhattisgarh for election duty. The shooting of this film began last year.

Besides Unda, Mammootty also has Pathinettaam Padi, Ganagandharvan   and Maamaankam scheduled for release this year. Mammootty has a crucial role to play in Pathinettam Padi  and his character is named John Abraham Palackal. The film will mark the debut of actor and writer Shankar Ramakrishnan as a feature film director. He has earlier directed the segment Island Express in the anthology film Kerala Café, and written scripts for several movies including Urumi, Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla and My Story.

Mammootty’s Ganagandharvan, directed by comedian-turned-director Ramesh Pisharody, went on floors officially on Saturday. The film has the megastar playing the character named Kalasadanan Ullas. The makers have roped in debutant Vanditha to play the female lead. Produced by Maniyanpilla Raju under the banner Maniyanpilla Raju Productions, the film has been scripted by Ramesh Pisharody along with Hari P Nair. 

Maamaankam is a historical based on a medieval fair for the warriors. Ganesh Rajavelu aka Jim Ganesh is wielding the camera, M Jayachandran is scoring the music, Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the editing, and Kaecha Khamphakdee is choreographing the stunts of the film, bankrolled by Venu Kunnampilly under the banner Kavya Films.
