The Malayalam film Uyare will have actor Parvathy playing the lead role. She would be portraying an acid attack victim in it. The film will be directed by Manu Ashokan, an erstwhile associate of the late filmmaker Rajesh Pillai.

Speaking about the project, scriptwriter Sanjay of the Sanjay – Bobby duo, told in an interview to onlinemanorama that, “Manu, who was Rajesh’s associate, was really close to him. In fact, Rajesh used to talk about Manu quite often. He was extremely weak while he was doing Vettah (the last film he directed) and it was Manu who supported him the most during that time. Rajesh used to tell me that he wished to let Manu do one of his movies. That is how we arrived at this project. You could say that Rajesh left the world leaving Manu with us. An invisible presence of Rajesh could truly be felt by us.”

On casting Parvathy for the role, Sanjay said she is an actor with talent who could pull off the role with ease. A make-up team from Bengaluru has been signed up to take care of Parvathy’s make-up. As she will be playing an acid attack victim, it requires special make-up for the role. Further, we hear that the director intends to shoot some scenes at the Sheroes Hangout, a café run by the acid attack survivors for their community.

The film will be bankrolled by Shegna, Sherga and Shenuga, the daughters of producer PV Gangadharan, under the banner Grihalakshmi Films. The music for Uyare will be composed by Gopi Sunder, and Mahesh Narayan will be taking charge at the editing table. Director Manu’s wife Shreya will be the film’s costume designer.

Uyare went on to the floors with Rajesh Pillai’s wife Megha starting off the proceedings with the first clap.
