There have been reports that the upcoming Bollywood flick Sooryavanshi is a remake of the Tamil flick Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru. Denying it outright, the makers of Sooryavanshi have released a press statement, which makes it clear that it is not so.

The statement reads, “This is in reference to the news that director Rohit Shetty has bought the rights of Tamil film Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru for Sooryavanshi. This is to clarify that the news is completely untrue and baseless. Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi, which is produced and directed by Rohit Shetty, is an original story and not inspired from any film.”

Director Rohit Shetty is well known for wielding the megaphone for the Singham franchise, which were cop films and now, with Sooryavanshi, he is back to the same genre.

Sooryavanshi is touted to be a cop film with Akshay Kumar playing the role Veer Sooryavanshi, the chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad. The film also has Ajay Devgn playing the role Bajirao Singham and Ranveer Singh playing Sangram Bhalerao.

Akshay is currently shooting for Karan Johar's Good News and also has projects like Kesari, Mission Mangal and Housefull 4, needing his attention.

Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru is a 2017 Tamil action thriller, written and directed by H Vinoth and produced by SR Prakashbabu and SR Prabhu under the banner Dream Warrior Pictures.

The story is based on true events from the 'Operation Bawaria' case, which involved the nefarious activity of dacoits and how the Tamil Nadu police nabbed the culprits. The film had Karthi and Rakul Preet Singh play the lead roles, while Abhimanyu Singh played the baddie.

It may be noted here that the Hindi dubbed version of his film was titled Theeran and released on YouTube by Goldmines Telefilms a year later after its theatrical release.
