Suriya took out time from his busy schedule to attend the audio launch of his brother Karthi-starrer Kaatru Veliyidai. He did so because he was proud of his brother who collaborated with ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam, with whom Suriya had worked in Aayutha Ezhuthu.

Speaking at the event, Suriya said: “When I was shooting for Aayutha Ezhuthu, Karthi was assisting Mani sir. To realize he has actually worked in a film with Mani sir makes us all proud at home. I think it’s a blessing both of us have got an opportunity to work with Mani sir.”

Suriya also said he was stunned by Karthi’s transformation in the film. “When Karthi shared the first picture from the film in our family Whatsapp group, it took me a few minutes to convince myself that it was indeed Karthi. We couldn’t believe his transformation.”

In the film, Karthi plays a fighter pilot and he’s paired with Aditi Rao Hydari, who plays a doctor. Ratnam, speaking at the audio launch, said that through the film he would like to extend gratitude to the Indian armed forces. Shot predominantly in places such as Kashmir, Ooty, Ladakh and Bulgaria, Karthi said they had to bear extreme climatic conditions.
