The Dulquer Salmaan starrer Kurup has an ensemble of stars in the cast and the latest is that Tovino Thomas may be playing a crucial role. Though an official announcement about this is yet to be made, we hear that Tovino may be playing Chacko in it and that it might be a cameo appearance.
It has already been revealed that Dulquer plays Sukumara Kurup and Indrajith will be seen as the cop investigating the crime. Shine Tom Chacko has been roped in to play the role of Bhasi Pillai. Kurup also stars Sobhita Dhulipala and Sunny Wayne in pivotal roles. Srinath Rajendran is wielding the megaphone for this venture which is based on the life of Kerala’s most elusive accused till date, Sukumara Kurup. The film is bankrolled by Dulquer Salmaan’s own production house, Wayfarer Films, and M Stars.
Kurup is scripted by Daniell Sayooj Nair and K S Aravind while Jithin K Jose has penned the story. On the central character Sukumara Kurup, it is well known that he is one of the most wanted criminals in the history of India. Accused of murdering a film representative named Chacko, Sukumara Kurup faked his own death. Sukumara Kurup’s plan was to murder Chacko and pass it off as his own death to claim a large amount of insurance. It was a sensational case; more so because the police could not arrest the main accused while co-accused, driver Ponnappan and brother-in-law Bhaskar Pillai, were sentenced to life imprisonment. It is one of the longest unsolved cases in Kerala till date. Reports are that a lot of research has gone into the project.
Tovino currently has a number of films in different stages of production. He is expecting the release of Edakkad Battalion 06 this week. Wielding the megaphone for this venture is debut director Swapnesh K Nair. Reports are that Edakkad Battalion 06 has been inspired by a true story, the details of which are kept under wraps for now. Tovino Thomas is playing an army officer in it. Tovino also has 563 St. Charles Street, Kilometers and Kilometers, Minnal Murali, Joe and a few other projects. Of this, Kilometers and Kilometers is in the post-production mode.
