In his upcoming film, Kalki, Tovino Thomas will be seen playing a police officer. According to sources in the know, his role will have some similarities with the character Inspector Balram, which Mammootty had immortalized (in the film by the same name). Incidentally, this is not the first time that Tovino would be donning the Kakhi - he has done it for the Prithviraj starrer Ezra, though it was a cameo appearance.

On Tovino’s role in Kalki, the film’s producer Prasobh Krishna told in an interview to the Times of India, “His role is similar to Mammootty’s Inspector Balram that has a cult following. He will be seen throughout the movie as a cop. However, it doesn’t deal with investigations or anything but about a few incidents that happen in a place.”

The producer added that the title Kalki was finalised because, “Kalki is said to be the final incarnation of Lord Vishnu and the harbinger of destruction. It’s in line with a few character traits of Tovino’s role but the similarity ends there.”

Wielding the megaphone for Kalki is Praveen Prabharam and he has jointly penned the script with Sujin Sujathan.

Meanwhile, Tovino is busy with his upcoming film And the Oscar Goes to… He is reported to be stationed in Canada where the film’s shooting is on. Tovino plays the role of a struggling filmmaker in it. Pairing up with him are Anu Sithara and an actor from abroad, whose name is not known yet. And The Oscar Goes To has a very talented technical crew with Bijibal roped in to score the music, Madhu Ambat for cinematography and the Oscar winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty for sound mixing and designing.

Besides these films, the star also plays a significant role in the Prithviraj directorial Lucifer, which went on the floors a couple of months ago.
