The wait is over and the announcement about Lucifer part 2 is out. Titled Empuraan, the big budget sequel to Lucifer was announced by actor Mohanlal on Facebook with a short video clip.

The clip features actors Prithviraj and Mohanlal and much like the first film, promises another tribute to the Malayalam superstar with a ‘mass’ scene in an undisclosed location in Russia. The 3 minute 12 second clip is shot in a snowy location and Prithviraj is seen waiting there. His phone rings and on the other side, a man can be heard threatening him over a consignment being shipped. When he asks Prithviraj who he is, and if he is a big shot, the actor hands over the phone to Mohanlal who introduces himself as Abram Qureshi, much to the shock of the man on the other side of the line. The clip is very similar to how the first Lucifer begins and ends.

Lucifer, which released in March 2019, marked actor Prithviraj’s directorial debut and was bankrolled by producer Antony Perumbavoor. The thorough commercial entertainer that Lucifer was fetched over Rs 200 crore at the box office, making it the second Malayalam movie to achieve this feat after Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan in 2016.

While Lucifer, penned by Murali Gopy, was a star studded film with Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Vivek Oberoi and Indrajith in lead roles, Empuraan’s star cast and other details are yet to be announced.

According to reports, Prithviraj confirmed that Empuraan will be a prequel and sequel of sorts to Lucifer. The title, Empuraan, supposedly means ‘more than a king and less than a god’ and the shooting is touted to start next year.  The release date has not yet been decided yet.

Prithviraj also added that Kerala will be the main location for the shoot of the film. The video clip confirmed that in Empuraan too, Mohanlal will play Abram Qureshi, who is known as Stephen Nedumpally in Kerala.
