Director’s Ram’s Peranbu has created quite a buzz among film circles and has gained a reputation for itself with international film festival premieres. The makers have released the film’s official teaser during the audio launch that took place on Sunday.

This two-minute teaser has been titled 'Chapter One - Nature is ruthless'. Amidst a scenic backdrop is a wooden cabin where this scene takes place. Mammootty who plays the father Amudhavan, is seen mimicking his daughter, Paapa’s, physical condition.

This scene is almost poetic and manages to leave an impact in a very short time. Amudhavan takes on the role of a narrator who tells his own story, his own thoughts. “All these years I was worried why Paapa is not like other children. But when I tried walking like her I realised comparing one person with another is brutal."

This monologue is more powerful than any visuals could hope to produce, giving us a deeper insight into the lives of caretakers, especially parents of children with disabilities.

Peranbu is a bilingual film that will release in Tamil and Malayalam.

Produced by PL Thenappan under his banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films, the film has an impressive star cast with Anjali, Thanga Meengal Sadhana, Sarath Kumar, Anjali Ameer, Samuthirakani, Vadivukkarasi, Livingston, Suraj Venjaramood, Siddique and Aruldoss. The film’s music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Theni Eswar has worked on the cinematography and Suriya Pradhaman has done the editing.

While Ram has collaborated with Yuvan Shankar Raja and Na Muthukumar in the past, Vairamuthu, Karunakaran and Sumathi Ram have penned lyrics for Peranbu’s songs. The duo also fondly recalled working with lyricist Na Muthukumar, who unfortunately passed away in 2016,  during the film’s audio launch.

Peranbu was officially selected at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and Shanghai International Film Festival. It was also the only Indian film to feature in the top 20 in the Audience Award category at Rotterdam. It was nominated for NETPAC award, an award given to best Asian films.
