Vijay fans, rejoice! If you missed watching the actor’s film Bigil on the big screens or feel like watching it in the comfort of your own home, here’s some good news. The actor’s hit film, Bigil, which hit the screens in October during Deepavali, is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

Vijay plays the dual role of a father and son from North Madras. Playing the role of Rayappan, Vijay is seen as a gangster. Rayappan’s son, Michael ‘Bigil’ is a football star, again, donned by Vijay. ‘Lady Superstar’ Nayanthara plays the female lead in this film.

It also stars Jackie Shroff, Indhuja, Reba Monica John, Amritha Aiyer, Varsha, Kathir, Vivek and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles.

There was some controversy surrounding the film after a Telugu short filmmaker named Nandi Chinni Kumar accused director Atlee of plagiarising the story. However, it managed to see a smooth release.

This is director Atlee and Vijay’s third film together following Theri and Mersal, which were both huge box office successes. AR Rahman handled the music for the film, with all the songs being received well by fans and audiences alike. The song Singapenney won praises and crossed 30 million views.

The film has broken many records and raked in one of the highest collections of films released this year. It has also been revealed that the film was ranked among the top 10 most tweeted hashtags in 2019.

The makers of the film claimed that it had grossed over Rs 140 crores in four weeks of running in theatres in Tamil Nadu alone, setting a new record. This is the seventh 100-crore grosser for actor Vijay and fifth in a row after Theri, Bairavaa, Mersal and Sarkar.

It was produced by AGS Entertainment on a staggering budget of Rs 180 crore.
