Yash’s action entertainer ‘KGF’ a big hit at the box office, rakes in the moolah

The Yash starrer KGF, which hit the silver screens on December 21, has turned out to be a big hit. The film was released in five languages – Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. The Kannada version is doing well at theatres and is expected to break box office records. The Telugu version has also found good patronage, with KGF doing well in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Reports indicate that the Tamil version of KGF faced stiff competition from Tamil movies such as Maari 2 and Seethakaathi that also released the same week. In Malayalam, the good word of mouth could help in increasing the number of screens, say sources. The Hindi version has also recorded good collections at the box office. The exact figures for this magnum opus should be out soon.

According to reports, the movie has made almost Rs 60 crores in three days. And the good news is that box office collections have steadily increased over the days. While the movie raked in Rs 18.1 crore on the first day, it increased its collection to Rs 19.2 crore on the second day. IE reported that on the third day, the movie made Rs 22.4 crore at the Indian box office. According to entertainment industry trackers, the movie is doing well abroad too.

The action entertainer opened to an overwhelmingly positive audience reaction particularly in Karnataka. Several shows in Bengaluru were sold out throughout the first day. The film released in over 400 theatres in the state and in over 2,400 theatres in the country, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The Hindi version alone has raked in almost Rs 10 crore.

KGF is directed by Prashanth Neel, who has also written the story, screenplay and dialogues. Vijay Kiragandur is bankrolling the project under his banner Hombale Films. The film has Yash playing the lead role with Srinidhi Shetty paired opposite him. The rest of the star cast includes Achyuth Kumar, Nassar, Malavika Avinash, Anant Nag and Vasishta N Simha. The film is narrated by Anant Nag.

The technical team comprises music director Ravi Basrur, cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda and art director Shivakumar.

The mega budget movie is distributed by some of the most high profile distributors in the film industry. In Tamil, the distribution rights were lapped up by Vishal’s Vishal Film Factory and the Malayalam version is distributed by Global United Media. The Hindi version is distributed by Farhan Akthar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment jointly with Anil Thadani’s AA Films.
