Following CBSE’s announcement of withdrawal of affiliation to six National Public Schools, alumni and parents of children studying at the affected branches have launched a campaign urging the government to reconsider.
In a petition published on change.org, Shweta Pathak Chand claimed that the allegations that the institute had forged the documents were misplaced and politically motivated.
Shweta praises NPS for its exemplary service and says that its alumni are well-placed. She also blames the government for not being able to provide quality education and instead pulling up private institutions without having considered the repercussions.
The petition needs 7,500 signature and has obtained over 6,000 signatures in two days.
Aditi Kandam, a Class 6 student from NPS Indiranagar has also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to help them get their school back. A copy of the same was published on a Facebook group.
Acting on a complaint from the National Commission for Minority Education Institutions (NCMEI), the Karnataka Department of Public Instruction filed a complaint against KP Gopalkrishnan, chairman of NPS Group of Schools in Karnataka with the police. The government has accused NPS of forging documents to avoid setting aside 25% seats to students under the Right to Education.
Sowjanya, Commissioner for Public Instruction told The News Minute: “The DPI had filed a complaint in August 2016. However, the police have not filed an FIR yet.” She refused to comment on why there could have been a delay.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner NS Megharik told The News Minute that there was nothing pending from the police’s side.
If CBSE withdraws afflitiation, NPS will have to start teaching state board syllabus from the next academic year.
Adarsh Iyer, co-president of Janaadhikara Sangharsha Parishath (JSP) claims that amidst this delay in filing an FIR, NPS might manage to get a stay order in the court and the issue of forgery would be brushed aside.
