Following the collapse of a five-storey under-construction building in Bengaluru on Wednesday, the death toll now stands at six, even as rescue operations continued on the third day.

According to reports, the rescue team recovered the body of a Kolkata native Sri Krishna from the debris on Friday afternoon.

With this, the rescue team called off the search operations, as all the workers who were trapped in the rubble were located.

Until Thursday night, the personnel were only able to gain access to the first floor of the collapsed building and it was hours later on Friday that they were able to get to the basement of the building, from where Sri Krishna’s body was recovered.

The under-construction building near Eco Space in Bellandur on outer ring road collapsed on Wednesday afternoon, leaving ten workers trapped in the debris.

The NDRF personnel rescued four workers, out of which, two of them continue to be in a critical condition, say reports.

The jurisdictional HSR police on Thursday booked the builders and the architect of the building for culpable homicide, based on a complaint filed by the BBMP.

According to the officials, the construction was meant to be ground-plus-two-floors, but the building that was being constructed was ground-plus-four-floors. Moreover, the materials used for construction were of sub-standard quality, the officials said.

The police have arrested one of the partners Srinivasa Reddy and are on the lookout for the others mentioned in the complaint.

“In two cases, two men had registered the business under their wives' names, but were actively involved in the development, so we will track them as well,“ MB Boralingaiah, DCP Southeast told The Times of India.

The police have also collected samples from the debris to ascertain the cause of the collapse.
